    • Decorative pebbles can be use to beautify your home or classroom as well to make exclusive arts and craft projects. Decorate an ordinary potted plant by covering the soil with a layer of colored pebbles in a fun pattern or concentric circles. This will also keep little critters and bugs out of your potted plant soil. Pebble mosaics are easy and beautiful to make, and kids will love the finished project.

    Older kids will enjoy making pebble art and pebble critters by painting directly onto the surface of the pebbles. Paint animals, bugs, flags, and words onto the smooth flat surface of your pebbles using a small paintbrush or felt tip permanent markers. Write out words or spell out messages for visitors to read as they come into your front porch or hallway. If you want a more elaborate project to do with older kids, make an adorable pebble birdhouse using recycled materials and your decorative pebbles. Cut a hole in the side of a large round container, preferably Styrofoam or cardboard. This will be where the bird comes in and out. Make another small hole under this hole to place a small branch for the bird to rest on.

    Now cover the container with a layer of quick drying plaster or putty. Press your pebbles firmly into the plaster in a random or organized pattern. While drying, you can make a roof from craft foam, Styrofoam or cardboard sheets. This pebble craft can be used to make any container, be it a pen and pencil holder, a paperweight, a wine bottle cooler or any other variety you like. Vary the size or shape of the container you use according to your needs, and cover using the same method as laid out above. If you choose a container with a slippery surface, trying hot gluing a layer of mesh wire or felt to it first. This will help the pebbles stick more easily.
