Hungry Caterpillar Activities: Learn the Life Cycle!

One educational lesson often taught in conjunction with The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the cycle that the caterpillar undergoes to become a butterfly. Reinforce this important biology with an original caterpillar to butterfly activity, and this will be one fun lesson that even youngsters will never forget!

- Print the PATTERN of the 4 stages of the life cycle. Color the pictures and then cut out.
- Glue each picture onto a Pocket Card.
- Attach one side of the Self-Adhesive Hook and Loop Coins to the back of each of the 4 Pocket Cards. Attach the other side of the Hook and Loop to the Mighty Bright Tag background (which will be the playing board) in a straight row, as shown in picture.
- How to play the Very Hungry Caterpillar activity: Have children detach cards from playing board, and mix up their order. The goal is to replace all cards to their proper places, according to the life cycle of a caterpillar.
Variations:
-Older children can play with a partner; they can have a race to see who can get all the cards correctly on the board first.
-For children who are old enough to write numbers, have them write numbers one through 4 on the playing board, above the pocket cards.
