Instructions

  1. Cut a piece of felt to the length of the pencil (minus its point and eraser) and a little wider than the pencil's diameter.
  2. With a hot glue gun, attach one end of the felt to the pencil, wrap around the pencil tightly, and glue down the other end.
  3. Take two doilies and cut off 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the hearts.
  4. Choose from Hygloss's variety of heart-shaped stickers and decorate the two doilies identically. Teachers and parents: teach children (even preschoolers can learn) how to decorate the two wings symmetrically!
  5. Glue the wings to the pencil. (The cut side of the hearts should be touching each other, as shown in picture.)
  6. Print the TEMPLATE of the middle of the butterfly, or just copy the basic shape. Trace onto craft foam and cut out.
  7. Glue the craft foam in between the two wings.
  8. Place a smiley face sticker on top of the foam.
  9. Use a permanent marker on the foam to personalize your Valentine Craft with a Butterfly Valentine message.
