"Butterfly Kisses" Valentine's Craft
|
| Transform a plain old pencil into a vibrant butterfly! Kids will be delighted to
give their own homemade Valentine's gifts to Mom and Dad. This Valentine's
craft encourages children to learn about symmetry and shapes while reinforcing

- Cut a piece of felt to the length of the pencil (minus its point and eraser) and a little wider than the pencil's diameter.
- With a hot glue gun, attach one end of the felt to the pencil, wrap around the pencil tightly, and glue down the other end.
- Take two doilies and cut off 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the hearts.
- Choose from Hygloss's variety of heart-shaped stickers and decorate the two doilies identically. Teachers and parents: teach children (even preschoolers can learn) how to decorate the two wings symmetrically!
- Glue the wings to the pencil. (The cut side of the hearts should be touching each other, as shown in picture.)
- Print the TEMPLATE of the middle of the butterfly, or just copy the basic shape. Trace onto craft foam and cut out.
- Glue the craft foam in between the two wings.
- Place a smiley face sticker on top of the foam.
- Use a permanent marker on the foam to personalize your Valentine Craft with a Butterfly Valentine message.
WARNING: Hot glue gun may pose the risk of burns and is for adult use only. Cutting felt requires adult sharp scissors, and should be done by adult only.
