"Tee"-rrific Bulletin Board

If you like easy back to school ideas, then this bulletin board for back to school is just "Tee"-rrific for you! It's eye-catching and original, and since the tee-shirts are removable, it gives you the option of allowing each child to decorate his/ her tee-shirt for a fun back to school activity!

Instructions

  1. Cover the bulletin board with a blue background. (You can use desired number of large Mighty Bright Sheets for this.) Place Green Grass Border along the bottom edge.
  2. With the color paper of your choice, write a "T-RRIFIC" caption for your back to school bulletin board, and glue or tape to the top portion of the background. Some ideas are: "Class ___ is T-rrific"/ "Hang in there, we're off to a T-rrific year!"  [TIP: Insert 8.5" x 11" Bright Paper into your printer, print out a caption in an outline format, and cut out.]
  3. Cut  a piece of string slightly longer than the length of the bulletin board, and attach it to the 2 ends of the bulletin board with hot glue. Depending on how many students there are, and the size of your bulletin board, you may need to make 2 or 3 clothes lines. To get an idea of how many will fit, see the above photo. That back to school bulletin board was made on a 35" x 46" background, and it fit 2 rows of 5 tee-shirts. A standard bulletin board size is larger than this.)
  4. Write the names of your students on the tee-shirts. Clip 2 clothespins to each shirt, and hot glue the clothespins (not the shirts) to the string.
  5. Optional: Take this back to school idea one step further, with a great BACK TO SCHOOL ACTIVITY! During the first week(s) of school, detach the shirts from the clothespins and allow each child to decorate his/ her shirt. Use sequins, stickers, sparkle spots, glitter, buttons, foam shapes and mosaic squares to produce tee-rrific looking tee-shirts, and then hang them back up on your tee-rrific back to school bulletin board!

What are some benefits of this back to school bulletin board idea?

  • Kids feel great pride when their work is displayed. Often, it is not possible to display their work until after they have learned enough material to do a project on. Allowing students to decorate and display their their tee-shirts gives them this benefit right at the start of the year!

  • This back to school activity provides a forum in which teachers can begin to develop a positive rapport with students. Walking around the classroom and complimenting their art work can boost students' self-esteem and create positive feelings. It also allows the academically-challenged student to be acknowledged for something other than academics!
