2- MAKE A PAPER PINWHEEL

Teaching our nation's heritage comes alive with age-appropriate Fourth of July activities like this one. In this Fourth of July craft, kids will have fun learning how to make pinwheels, and they'll gain plenty of educational skills besides!

  • First choose what you want to make your pinwheel craft from: either 5" Metallic Foil Board Squares or Paper Squares.
  • Decorate the squares of your choice, using star stickers and/ or markers. For the Metallic Foil Board, decorate both sides. For Paper Squares, decorate one side of each Square and then glue together the two undecorated sides.
  • Using a ruler as a guide, draw 2 diagonal lines with pencil, to form an "x"- connecting the opposite corners.
  • Begin cutting on the lines from each of the 4 corners, ending 1 inch before the center point. You now have 4 triangles.
  • Bring the right point of each triangle to the center point and staple them down. You may need more than one staple to hold them all in place.
  • Push the thumbtack or pin through the center of the pinwheel craft, and then into the eraser of the unsharpened pencil.

Blow your pinwheel and watch it spin!

3. Firework Salt Painting

Materials for this craft:

On the black cardstock, draw the fireworks using a pencil. Then, outline your drawings in school glue. The purpose of this activity is to have your kids sprinkle salt on top of the glue. There should be a TON of salt on the paper. They should remove any excess into the trash. You can either do this activity the right way, or wait until the salt dries. Your children can use watercolors to paint the fireworks red and blue, and white in the middle! Check out ABCDee Learning for the full instructions!

4. Craft Stick Rocket Craft

Materials for this craft:

To start this craft, firstly, you paint the craft sticks red and blue. Second, using the paper template, trace the shapes onto the different color cardstock paper and cut them out. Next, glue the triangle to the top of the craft stick and glue the triangle fin to the bottom of the stick. Then, put the flames behind the triangle fin. Finally, punch out three yellow stars from the paper, and glue onto the craft stick. After this, you are all done! Your kids can show off their 4th of July rocket to all of their friends on this merry holiday! Thanks to Our Kid Things for the brilliant idea!

5. Paper Bag Eagle Craft

Materials for this craft:

This craft is extremely simple to make. All it takes is a few steps. To start with, trace your hand on the brown paper. Then, grab your child's hand and trace it on a separate piece of paper. Cut both pairs out, and you should have a small and big pair of brown paper hands. Then, take the white paper and mark the size of the bottom of the brown bag. Cut out, and make another one and cut edges into them for the chin of the face of the eagle. Then, glue the white square on the flap of the bag, and then glue the edgy white paper below it. After that, take out the brown handprints and glue the small prints on first, and then the big ones on top. It will give off a layering 3D effect. Next, cut off two yellow triangle feet and a beak, and glue them on. Finally, glue on the googly eyes on the white paper, and you're finished! This craft is absolutely adorable and very easy for any kids to create themselves!
