Supplies Box

Instructions

  1. Take a cereal box and cut off one of the side panels. That will be the bottom of the puppet theater.
  2. Cut out the middle of the box on one side, leaving about 2 inches on each side.
  3. Cover the box with colorful bright sheets or any paper or wrapping paper. (We used red bright sheets.) If you want you can paint the whole box.
  4. For the curtains, choose a fabric sheet and cut 2 strips, the width about 3 inches and height about 1 1/2 inches shorter than the box. Place each one on either side of the box, starting at the top (as shown in picture above). Then tape or use a glue gun to attach them to the box.
  5. Use a twist-tie to pull back the curtain, as shown above.
  6. For some extra pizazz, add foam squares at the top and wooden star beads for the spot lights. Use ABC beads to write "PUPPET THEATER" at the bottom, and attach with glue gun.
PUPPETS:

Here's an easy technique to create finger puppets using pipe cleaners and wiggle eyes.

CAT PUPPET:
  1. Twirl a white pipe cleaner around your finger. (It's better to twist it tightly because it's easier to make it looser once it's off your finger than to tighten it.) Then slide off your finger.
  2. For the head, poke the top of the pipe cleaner into a styrofoam ball and then attach 2 self adhesive wiggle eyes.
  3. For the ears, cut two pieces of white pipe cleaner (each about 1 inch long), fold in half, and poke into the top of the head, as shown in picture above.
  4. Cut a 1/2 inch piece of white pipe cleaner for the nose and poke it into the ball (as shown).
  5. For the tail, cut two 2 inch pieces of pipe cleaner; one black and one white. Twist them around each other. Then attach the tail to the cat's body by twisting the tip of the tail around part of the spiraled white pipe cleaner.
BUUNY PUPPET:
  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 from the cat puppet, this time with a pink pipe cleaner.
  2. For the ears, cut two pieces of pink pipe cleaner (about 2 inches long each). Fold in half and then poke into the top of the styrofoam ball, as shown in picture above.
  3. For the nose, cut a 1/2 inch piece of pink pipe cleaner and poke it into the face (as shown).
CHICK PUPPET:
  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 from the cat puppet, this time with a yellow pipe cleaner.
  2. For the nose, cut a one inch piece of orange pipe cleaner, fold in half and poke into the face.
  3. For the hands, cut a piece of yellow pipe cleaner about 4 1/2 inches long. Fold the two sides in, as shown below. Then stick through the body of the chick. You do not have to glue it but if you want it to stay firm you can use glue gun to attach.
Here are your three finger puppets. You're ready to use your puppet stage and perform puppet shows for kids. Have fun!
